Big Gears for Little Ears is a one-year biblical theology curriculum for children ages five to ten, with a mission to teach young hearts and minds how the Bible progresses, integrates, and climaxes in Christ.

THE METHOD

Bible + Machine

What is the Bible? Why does God’s Word matter? What is the Old Testament trying to teach me? How does the New Testament connect to the Old Testament? How does Jesus Christ permeate all sections of Scripture?

Big Gears for Little Ears endeavors to answer these questions and more. In this curriculum we have broken the Bible into six different sections. The sections of Scripture are very different, yet they all point people to Jesus Christ and the redemption story of God’s people. Kids need to know these truths!

Big Gears for Little Ears compares the six sections of the Bible to six gears on a machine. We have found comparing the Bible to gears that are always working together is an effective way to explain how the sections of the Bible are all different, yet working together to tell one magnificent story!

Waffle Creek Stories

Students will soon fall in love with the quaint little town of Waffle Creek, and the group of kids that live there. Waffle Creek is no ordinary town. It is the home of the machine with the six gears! This machine with the six gears and the delightful cast of characters in the town of Waffle Creek are present in each lesson. These short stories further aid in the understanding of each Bible lesson and strengthen the analogy of the six gears used throughout this curriculum.

Bible Lessons and Illustrations

Our study begins at the beginning of Scripture (The Law) and ends at the end of Scripture (Revelation). Each lesson has been chosen to support the idea that all of Scripture progresses, integrates, and climaxes in Jesus Christ. Our prayer is that the students using this year-long curriculum—and the teachers teaching this curriculum—grow confident in Jesus Christ’s strong presence in every part of Scripture!

Big Gears for Little Ears invites teachers and students alike to look at every section of God's Word seeking to find the answer to the same question: How is Jesus and God's great redemption story known in this passage? The topic of Typology is emphasized significantly in this curriculum to further deepen and expand the theology of the Gospel and its overarching theme in each section of Scripture.
