When seeking to apply the Old Testament, consider how Christ\u2019s fulfillment of Old Testament hopes influences our appropriation of Old Testament promises (DeRouchie, How to Understand and Apply the Old Testament<\/em>, 474\u201381). Are the promises maintained, completed, transformed, or expanded? An example of a transformed promise concerns the tabernacle. \u201cIn the days of Leviticus, YHWH was already inhabiting the material tabernacle, in which he \u2018walked\u2019 with Israel through the wilderness (Deut. 23:14). What Leviticus 26:11\u201312 portrays as future<\/em> promise, therefore, likely points to a reality beyond the physical dwelling place (whether tabernacle or temple) to a grander manifestation on earth of the ultimate heavenly temple that served as the earthly tent\u2019s pattern (Ex. 25:9, 40; 26:30; 27:8; cf. Acts 7:44).
