He describes how he wants to heal Israel, but Israel does not want to be healed. Because of this, destruction is coming upon them. Tom Kelby, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Book of Hosea with Study Notes: A Preacher\u2019s Guide to the Book of Hosea<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Webster, WI: Hands to the Plow, 2019), 86.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">[The poetry in 7:16 seems to indicate] the people will return to \u201cEgypt.\u201d This does not mean that most of the people in Israel returned to Egypt. They were actually conquered by Assyria. This is symbolic. The people will go back to the slavery from which Yahweh had delivered them. In this sense, \u201cEgypt\u201d could be anywhere in the world! It is not the nation in Africa which is the focus, it is the slavery that took place in Egypt. Because of idolatry, God\u2019s people will, once again, be enslaved. This explains why Hosea 1:10\u20132:1 spoke of a \u201csecond exodus.\u201d A second exodus is needed, because the people will, once again, need deliverance from oppression.
