From one of the seventy families dispersed throughout the earth at Babel (Gen. 10:32), Yahweh chose Abraham as the instrument through whom he would reverse the global curse with blessing. God himself was believable, and his promises were desirable, thus compelling the patriarch to leave Mesopotamia by faith. The commands [of Genesis 12:1\u20133 to] \u201cgo\u201d and \u201cbe a blessing\u201d indicate two phases in the Abrahamic cove\u00adnant: (1) In going to the land, Abraham would become a great nation (fulfilled in the Mosaic cove\u00ad nant).
