{"id":4561,"date":"2024-05-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/reading-plan\/may-2\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T12:19:57","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T17:19:57","slug":"may-2","status":"publish","type":"reading-plan","link":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/om\/reading-plan\/may-2\/","title":{"rendered":"May 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insight from Exodus 25<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without attempting to be exhaustive, here are some examples of Old Testament types that find their fulfillment in Christ:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The earthly tabernacle and all its furniture (Ex. 25:9, 40) were but \u201ca copy and shadow of the heavenly things\u201d (Heb. 8:5; cf. 8:2; 9:11, 24). This included \u201cthe mercy seat\u201d (Ex. 25:21-22; Lev. 16:14-15) that points directly to Christ as the one upon whom atonement is realized (Rom. 3:24\u201326).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The earthly temple typified Christ (John 2:19\u201321; cf. 1:14) and his church (1 Cor. 6:19).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Old Testament priesthood (Zech. 3:8) anticipated Christ as the high priest (Heb. 2:17; 9:11; cf. 9:24) and the church as priests (1 Pet. 2:5, 9).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Passover lamb (Ex. 12:3) typified Christ\u2019s substitutionary death (Isa. 52:7; John 1:29; Acts 8:32; 1 Cor. 5:7; 1 Pet. 1:19).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The substitutionary sacrifices in Leviticus typified Christ\u2019s own substitutionary sacrifice (Isa. 53:4\u20135, 8, 10\u201312; Heb. 9:12-14; 10:1-4, 10; 1 John 1:9&#8211;2:2; 10; cf. Col 2:13-14).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean and unclean food laws and the Jewish festivals and monthly sacrificial calendar typologically pointed to Christ (Col. 2:16-17; cf. Rom. 14:5\u20136; Gal. 4:9\u201310).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sabbath typologically anticipated the rest that Christ\u2019s resurrection inaugurated (Matt. 11:28\u201312:8; Col. 2:16\u201317; Heb 4:1\u201311).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you identify Old Testament types that clarify and anticipate Christ\u2019s person and work, see and celebrate the divine Son and the substance of all earlier shadows.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"give_campaign_id":0,"_seopress_robots_primary_cat":"","_seopress_titles_title":"","_seopress_titles_desc":"","_seopress_robots_index":"","_crdt_document":""},"class_list":["post-4561","reading-plan","type-reading-plan","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/om\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/reading-plan\/4561","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/om\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/reading-plan"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/om\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/reading-plan"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/om\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4561"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
