The author of 1\u20132 Kings measured kingdom success in the light of past covenants. This book [1\u20132 Kings] uses a formulaic, annalistic pattern for recording and evaluating all the kings in the northern and southern kingdoms. It approaches the kingdoms chronologically and in parallel, using the following recurrent pattern:<\/span><\/p>\n

    2. Statement about how long the king reigned and in what capital<\/span><\/li>\n

    4. The king\u2019s religious policy:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      • Israel<\/span><\/i>: Did he practice the \u201csins of Jeroboam son of Nebat,\u201d maximizing idolatry and rebellion and minimizing God\u2019s presence in Jerusalem (e.g., 1 Kings 16:25\u201326)?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
