Insight from Psalm 132:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Psalm 132 is one of a host of royal psalms that display a portrait of an unparalleled coming deliverer (see Pss 2, 18, 20, 21, 45, 72, 101, 110, 132, 144). The overall vision of this ruler in the Psalter\u2019s royal psalms is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. He is not simply God\u2019s (89:27) but his \u2018begotten\u2019 son (2:7), who belongs to YHWH (89:18) and remains ever devoted to him (18:20\u201324; 21:1, 7; cf. 63:1\u20138, 11); he is seated at God\u2019s right hand (110:1) and is himself tagged both as \u2018God\u2019 (45:6) and as David\u2019s \u2018Lord\u2019 (110:1); he will experience joy in God\u2019s presence forever (21:6; cf. 16:11).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. He will receive YHWH\u2019s everlasting blessing (21:6; 45:2; cf. 72:17), fulfill Davidic covenant promises (89:28\u201337; 132:11\u201312, 17\u201318), and be the heir of both the nations (2:8) and the Melchizedekian priesthood (110:1\u20134).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The nations and people of the earth stand against him (2:1\u20133; 110:2), but he will overcome all of them (45:3\u20135; 89:22\u201323; 110:1, 5\u20137; 132:18) through tribulation unto triumph (18:37\u201350; 20:1\u20139; 21:1, 4; 144:7\u20138, 11), and he will declare God\u2019s praises among them (18:49).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. By YHWH\u2019s act (2:6, 8; 18:31\u201336, 43, 46\u201350; 21:1\u201313; 110:1\u20132; 132:17\u201318), he will establish global rule (2:8\u201312; 45:17; 72:8\u201311; 89:25; 110:5\u20136; 132:18) based in Zion (2:6; 110:2; 132:13, 17).<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. He will reign forever (21:4; 45:6; 72:5) in peace (72:7) and fruitfulness (72:3, 16), and he will rule in righteousness and justice (45:4, 6\u20137; 72:2\u20133; 101:1\u20138), which will include befriending the poor and defeated the oppressor (72:2, 4, 12\u201314).<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Those finding refuge in him will be blessed (2:12; 72:17; 144:15), and under his rule, they will flourish (72:7) and enjoy abundance (72:3; 144:13\u201315), being both prosperous (72:3) and fruitful (72:16; 144:12).<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. He will possess an everlasting name (72:17), be preeminent among men (45:2, 7), and stand as the object of unending thanks.<\/span> – adapted from Jason S.     Insight from Amos 5:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u201cWhereas many in Israel envisioned the day of the Lord to be one of light, the prophets stressed that for all the unrepentant, it would indeed be night. \u201cWhy would you have the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light\u201d (Amos 5:18; cf. Mic. 3:6). \u201cWhen I blot you out, I will cover the heavens and make their stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light. All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over you, and put darkness on your land, declares the LORD God\u201d (Ezek. 32:7\u20138; cf. Joel 2:2, 10, 31; 3:15; Amos 8:9; Zeph. 1:15). When God enters our space and time, the natural forces react; storms awaken and ground quakes.
