He tells all believers that they must arm themselves with Christ\u2019s way of thinking in regard to suffering so that they might resist sin and live for \u201cthe will of God\u201d. Here we see two surprising benefits of suffering. Suffering helps believers resist sin and it helps them obey God!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peter is aware that his readers have, in the past, led sinful lives. However, he tells them that they must sin no longer. Peter tells the believers that they have spent enough time in the past sinning. Believers need to know that the \u201csinning season\u201d of their life is over! Now is the time to be self-controlled and sober-minded. If believers are not sober-minded and self-controlled, they will not be able to pray effectively!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peter\u2019s words aren\u2019t just about things we shouldn\u2019t do. He also speaks about things believer need to do. Believers need to love each other, they need to be hospitable, and they need to use their gifts. If believers do not obey these commands, the entire body of Christ will suffer!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peter does not want believers to be passive or to be confused. Even though they are suffering, he wants believers to actively engage in life right now!
