Insight from Isaiah<\/p>\n
In spite of all the darkness and rebellion of Israel\u2019s rise and fall, Yahweh graciously renewed his promise of a coming royal redeemer. King David foreshadowed this deliverer, and God declared that through David Yahweh would fulfill his universal kingdom purposes. One of David\u2019s offspring would be God\u2019s royal \u201cSon\u201d who would possess and bless the nations and destroy God\u2019s enemies. God would establish and uphold David\u2019s throne with justice and righteousness. Bearing the name \u201cIsrael,\u201d this new representative servant-king would \u201cbring back the preserved of Israel\u201d (the people) and be \u201ca light to the nations,\u201d thus extending Yahweh\u2019s saving reign to the end of the earth (Isa. 49:3, 6). The anticipated savior-king would proclaim Yahweh\u2019s end-time reign\u2014the year of his favor and the day of his vengeance.
