Recall that Jesus said that \u2018no one has ever seen God\u2019 the Father except the Son\u2019 (John 1:18; 6:46) but that \u2018whoever has seen me has seen the Father\u2019 (John 14:9). Similarly, Paul speaks of the Father as \u2018the invisible God\u2019 (Col. 1:15) \u2018who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see\u2019 (1 Tim. 6:16) . Minimally, this means that those who saw God in the Old Testament were enjoying preliminary and partial glimpses of his glory, at times through visions with figurative images. It also implies, at least in some instances where Yahweh becomes embodied in a human form in the Old Testament, we are likely meeting the preincarnate Son (e.g., Gen. 18:22; 32:24\u201330; Josh. 5:13\u201315; Ezek. 1:26; Dan. 7:13\u201314). John tells us that we also see Jesus\u2019s glory in Isaiah\u2019s vision of the Lord seated on the throne.
