All the Old Testament\u2019s laws, history, prophecy, and wisdom point to Jesus in various ways, and through him God fulfills all that the Old Testament anticipates (Matt. 5:17\u201318; Mark 1:15; Acts 3:18; 1 Cor. 1:23\u201324). \u201cChrist is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes\u201d (Rom. 10:4), and \u201call the promises of God find their Yes in him\u201d (2 Cor. 1:20). The old cove\u00adnant regulations regarding \u201cfood and drink . . . festival or a new moon or a Sabbath\u201d were all \u201ca shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ\u201d (Col. 2:16\u201317). \u201cHe is before all things, and in him all things hold together\u201d (Col. 1:17). Jason DeRouchie, <em>\u1260\u1265\u1209\u12ed \u12aa\u12f3\u1295 \u1218\u12f0\u1230\u1275<\/em>, xx.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The emphasis in Col 2:6 is not on the unique way Paul&#8217;s readers \u201creceived\u201d Jesus as their Savior. For instance, a person reading this letter might say, \u201cI <strong>received<\/strong> Jesus as my Savior when I was 23 years old.\u201d Paul is not focusing on the moment when one became a Christian or one\u2019s personal experience. Rather, Paul focuses on the <strong>message of Christ<\/strong> the Colossians received. Paul regularly uses the verb translated \u201creceived\u201d here when he speaks about a <strong>tradition<\/strong> handed down to another person (see 1 Cor 11:23; 15:1, 3; Gal 1:9, 12; Phil 4:9; 1 Thess 2:13; 4:1; 2 Thess 3:6). Paul often emphasizes the tradition a group of believers received (e.g., Gal 3:1\u20135). He also emphasizes his role in delivering this tradition (see 1 Cor 11:2, 23; 15:3), a tradition he received from Jesus Christ. In this letter, Paul contrasts the true tradition that Christians received with the \u201chuman tradition\u201d the false teachers wanted the Colossians to receive (see 2:8). Paul warns the Colossians not to be taken captive (2:8) by those pushing a \u201chuman tradition.\u201d <strong>For pastors, elders, church leaders, and parents: This verse emphasizes the importance of clearly presenting the true message (tradition) of Christ, and of making it clear that those who receive this message are accountable to hold on to the message they received. We must not present a watered-down version of the gospel in hopes that more people will \u201creceive\u201d it.
