{"id":4654,"date":"2024-08-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-20T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/reading-plan\/august-20\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T17:34:42","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T22:34:42","slug":"august-20","status":"publish","type":"reading-plan","link":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/am\/reading-plan\/august-20\/","title":{"rendered":"August 20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insight from Corinthians<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn 2 Corinthians Paul introduces his discussion of sowing and reaping this way: \u2018Though [our Lord Jesus Christ] was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich\u2019 (2 Cor. 8:9). It is from this framework that Paul then says, \u2018Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully (2 Cor. 9:6). Health and wealth types assume that riches and poverty here mean material gain or lack and that reaping bountifully speaks of an accumulation of wealth. The context, however, points in a different direction. First, when Paul speaks of Jesus\u2019s shift from rich to poor, he refers not to a change in Christ\u2019s economic status but to his incarnation and his willingness to die that we might gain life\u2026. Second, with respect to sowing and reaping , what Paul means is that, as you give to others, God will make you \u2018abound in every good work\u2019 (2 Cor. 9:8).
