After citing a list of Old Testament promises later in the epistle (2 Cor. 6:16–18), he urges the Corinthians believers to pursue holiness ‘since we have these promises’ (7:1). For Paul, both the Old and New Testament promises belong to Christians, yet this is only so in Jesus.” – Adapted from DeRouchie, Delighting in the OT, 155

“The old covenant contained conditional promises of blessing and curse. The condition was perfect obedience, and the blessings included both righteousness and life. There were also restoration blessings that point in part to the church age following the curse of exile. As noted at the beginning of this chapter, at the end of 2 Corinthians 6, Paul uses a string of Old Testament promises to motivate Christians to ‘not be unequally yoked with unbelievers’ (2 Cor. 6:14). Here he refers to one original Mosaic covenant blessing (Lev. 26:11–12 in 2 Cor. 6:16) and a series of restoration blessings associated with the Davidic and everlasting/new covenants (Ezek. 37:27 in 2 Cor. 6:16; Isa. 52:11 and Ezek. 20:34 in 2 Cor. 6:17; 2 Sam. 7:14 and Isa. 43:6 in 2 Cor. 6:18). The apostle believed all these promises are for Christians to aid our pursuit of holiness (2 Cor. 7:1).” – Adapted from DeRouchie, Delighting in the OT, 160–61.

["post-4653","reading-plan","type-reading-plan","status-publish","hentry
["GET
