Insight from Psalm 34<\/p>\n
Psalm 34 holds out a vision of end-times blessing for the righteous ones (plural) who pursue good and not evil, and Peter claims that this hope still exists for believers today. The retribution principle that stands behind the psalm (i.e., what you sow, you will reap) appears to build on the covenantal blessing-curse structure of Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28, yet it colors these promises in eschatological hues. This future orientation is clear: the psalmist knew that in the present many afflictions would come to God\u2019s followers, and yet he was confident that \u201cthe Lord hears \/ and delivers them out of all their troubles\u201d (Ps. 34:17) and that those who serve Yahweh and take refuge in him would not be condemned (34:22).
