Yet with Judah, Jacob declared that his brothers would praise and bow to him, that he would overcome his enemies, and that kingship would remain in his line until the promised one comes and enjoys both the obedience of the peoples and bounty (Gen. 49:8\u201312). The text, therefore, indicates that, though Joseph retained the blessing of the firstborn, Judah would be the one through whom the offspring-deliverer would rise who would bless the world \u201cin days to come\u201d (Gen. 49:1).
