{"id":4475,"date":"2024-01-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-16T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/reading-plan\/january-16\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T08:02:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T13:02:42","slug":"january-16","status":"publish","type":"reading-plan","link":"https:\/\/handstotheplow.org\/am\/reading-plan\/january-16\/","title":{"rendered":"January 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insight from Genesis 17:4\u20135:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStated succinctly, the first half of Abram\u2019s commission focuses on what is accomplished in the Mosaic covenant (stage 1 fulfillment), whereas the second addresses a divine work of restoration that is accomplished only through Jesus Christ in the new covenant (stage 2 fulfillment).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of Genesis supports this conclusion, for it distinguishes Abraham\u2019s serving as a father of a single nation from his future role as \u201cthe father of a multitude of nations\u201d (Gen. 17:4\u20135). It also distinguishes the initial age of blessing and life in the Promised Land [singular]\u2014made up of Canaan (Gen. 17:8, tribal allotments) and the extended region of suzerain oversight (15:18; cf. 1 Kings 4:20\u201321)\u2014from the broader lands [plural] that Abraham\u2019s offspring would inherit when they multiply as \u201cthe stars of heaven\u201d and when \u201call the nations of the earth shall be blessed\u201d (Gen. 26:3\u20134; cf. 15:5).
