There are no eyewitnesses living who can confirm the things Moses records in Genesis 1\u20134. There were none alive in Moses\u2019s day, either. No person witnessed the events recorded in Genesis 1. We have not been given a film of the events described in these chapters. We have no pictures of what took place when God created the heavens and the earth. We have been given words. We must be careful to treasure these words as a gift from God. If something else had been better for us, we can rest assured that God would have given it to us. He has, by his goodness, chosen to give us words in a book. These words have been written so that they might produce faith. It is tempting to ignore the words and to try to recreate the events that took place behind the text. However, this is not what we have been given. Again, we have been given God\u2019s words. We are to trust what he has said through his prophet Moses.
